The History Page

In the run up to the millennium it was decided to launch a self-financing project to publish the history of the Alun School. Notices were placed in the local press and postings placed on this website inviting contributions from ex-students. Many did, and a wealth of personal recollections, certificates and photographs have been obtained. Indeed, such was the range of the material that we decided to narrow the focus of the study and it seemed obvious that initially the founder of the school, William Lloyd Parry, was worthy of a single volume. Thus ‘A History of the Alun School, Mold, 1880-1922 : The Lloyd Parry Years’ was conceived, and in due course we hope to be able to bring the story up to date with a sequel.
This commercially printed and bound book runs to over 150 pages and contains many fascinating insights into the early years of the Alun School. Included are sections covering the various locations and buildings occupied by the school; education for both girls and boys; the school through the war; personal recollections of the school at that time; copies of scholarships examinations; inspection reports; many photographs (along with specially commissioned illustrations); together with the educational ideas of Lloyd Parry himself.
We hope that you will be interested in purchasing a copy, and may know others having connections with the school who might also be interested.
