Alun School

Prospectus

“Working together to provide excellent learning experiences”

I take great pleasure in presenting the Alun School Prospectus and hope that it provides a helpful introduction to what our School can provide for students.

We are the largest secondary school in Flintshire and are able to offer an exciting and varied curriculum. Our GCSE option lines contain a well-balanced mixture of traditional and vocational courses, which allow students to personalise their own learning. For example, students can choose to study Biology, Chemistry and Physics as three separate subjects rather than in a combined science course, as well as taking more practical options such as Construction, Performing Arts or Health & Social Care.

Continuity of education is also assured past the age of 16. Three-quarters of our students continue into our Sixth Form that, as the largest in Wales, provides an extensive choice of Advanced Levels. These can be taken in all the traditional combinations, or can also be linked with BTEC courses or the Welsh Baccalaureate qualification.

To support academic excellence, the standard of our pastoral care is second to none and our House System has been widely praised by visiting inspectors. We are also committed to providing the very best extra-curricular opportunities, including numerous performance events and sporting activities.

Please continue to keep in touch with the day-to-day life of the School by re-visiting this website regularly. If you require further information or if you would like to visit us at a time other than the published Open Days, contact the School Office and they will be pleased to make the appropriate arrangements.
